First Aid Refresher Level 1 & 2

This single half-day refresher course is designed for individuals who currently hold a valid First Aid Level 1 or Level 2 certificate and need to renew their qualification. It provides an efficient, streamlined update of all core first aid skills required to maintain certification.

Note: Unlike full first aid courses, there is no mandatory pre‑learning, and a valid form of photographic identification and a Valid level 1 or 2 certificate are the only prerequisites for attending.

Participants renew their First Aid Certificate for 2 years, covering both Level 1 & Level 2 competency requirements

By the end of the refresher session participants will be updated and revalidated in:

Assessing and managing trauma conditions, including wounds, soft tissue injuries, burns, fractures, dislocations, and poisoning (aligned with NZQA 6401 competencies).
Assessing and managing medical conditions such as asthma, anaphylaxis, cardiac events, strokes, seizures, and diabetes (NZQA 6401).
Providing basic life support, including airway management, CPR (infants, children, and adults), AED use, shock, choking, and bleeding control (NZQA 6402).
Scene assessment and hazard management relevant to first aid response (NZQA 6402).

NZQA‑certified instructors support participants through scenario-based practice, ensuring confidence and compliance with current first aid expectations.
WorkSafe recommends first aid certifications be refreshed every 2 years to ensure ongoing relevance of skills. If a previous certificate has expired beyond the allowable window, the full course must be attended instead.

An assessment is completed during the session to confirm participants can demonstrate the correct first aid response across all applicable NZQA unit standard outcomes.
